Die Asse ist ein bis 234 m hoher Höhenzug östlich von Wolfenbüttel im Landkreis Wolfenbüttel im östlichen Niedersachsen (Deutschland). Erdgeschichtlich gehört die Asse zur Triasperiode (Mesozoikum). Salz wurde bereits vor 250 bis 230 Millionen Jahren in der Zechsteinzeit aus dem Meer ausgeschieden. Die ehemals flach gelagerten Schichten wurden tektonisch vor etwa 110 Millionen Jahren zum heutigen Assesattel  aufgefaltet. Für die Öffentlichkeit hat die Asse einen wichtigen Aspekt wegen der im Laufe der Jahrzehnte wechselnden Nutzung des unterirdischen Salzsattels. Im Auftrag der Bundesregierung wurden zwischen 1967 und 1978 Forschungen zur sicheren Endlagerung radioaktiver Abfälle  in der Schachtanlage Asse II vorgenommen. In dieser Zeit wurden etwa 125.000 Fässer schwachradioaktiver Abfälle und rund 1.300 Behälter  mit mittelradioaktiven Abfällen eingelagert. Seit 1967 wird in der Südflanke der Schachtanlage Asse ein Salzlösungszutritt beobachtet. Das
bedeutet, dass der radioaktive Abfall dort langfristig nicht sicher zu lagern ist! Diese Problematik wird derzeit mit großer Sorge betrachtet.

Um diesen Earthcache zu loggen, müsst Ihr NICHT auf meine Erlaubnis warten. Beantwortet folgende Frage und sendet die Antwort zeitnah mit dem Log per Mail (!) an mich  ab (keine Lösungshinweise im Log!).

1. Wieviel geologische Schichten werden im Schaukasten nahe den Startkoordinaten genannt?
2. Nenne zwei Arten von Salzen, die in der Asse vorkommen

(Informationen dazu erhält man nahe des Startpunktes)

Außerdem sind zwei Fotos mit jedem loggenden Cacher notwendig (zum Log hochladen):

1. Am Stein, an den angegebenen Koordinaten
2. Nahe des Schacht II, mit Teilen des Fördergerüsts und/oder des alten Gebäudes im Hintergrund

Ausgehend vom Start kann man die Koordinaten N 52 07.756 E 010 40.191 mit einem gemütlichen, halbstündigen Spaziergang erreichen. Mit dem MTB sind es nur wenige Minuten. Oder man begibt sich mit dem Cachemobile dort hin (das sind dann auch nur ein paar Minuten).

The 'Asse' is a mountain range with a hight up to 234 meters, east of the town Wolfenbuettel in the district Wolfenbuettel in Lower Saxony (Germany). Historicly the 'Asse' belongs to the Trias-Period (Mesozoic Era). Salt was already separated before 250 to 230 million years in the Zechstein-Era (Zechstein = German either from mine stone or tough stone) from the sea. Formerly the flat stored layers were unfolded tectonically approximately 110 million years ago to the today's Asse-saddle. For the public the 'Asse' has an important aspect because of the use of the underground salt saddle changing in the course of the decades. On behalf the German Federal Government between 1967 and 1978 research for the safe dumping of radioactive wastes in the pit 'Asse II' were made. In this time about 125,000 barrels of weak-radioactive wastes and approximately 1,300 containers with centralradioactive wastes were stored. Since 1967 brine admission are observed in the south flank of the pit Asse. That means, that the radioactive waste to be stored there on a long-term basis, is not safe! This problem is regarded at present with large concern.

2. name two kinds of salts, which occurs in the underground of the 'Asse' mountain range

In addition two photos of each logging Geocacher are necessary (upload on geocaching.com):

1. at the stone, at the indicated coordinates
2. close the pit ('Schacht II'), with parts of the winding tower and/or the old building in the background

On the basis of the start you can reach the coordinates N 52 07.756 E 010 40.191 with a cosy, halfhour walk. By bicycle it takes only a few minutes. You can even go by Cachemobile (also only a few minutes).
