This is a NIGHT CACHE and is
recommended for anyone that wants a bit of extra adventure! As
far as we know it is a first for the Chatham area!
BE SURE TO READ THE FOLLOWING
INSTRUCTIONS FULLY
It will not be possible to do it during daylight hours! You
will need a good flashlight. Best is one that has a focused
beam.
This cache involves a hike of about 3/4 of a kilometer into a
woodlot following fire tacks and your GPSr.
BE SURE TO MARK YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE YOU
BEGIN THE HIKE! THERE WILL BE SOME FIRE TACKS TO GUIDE YOU BACK
OUT, BUT HAVING YOUR VEHICLE MARKED WILL BE YOUR SAFETY NET!
REMEMBER - THE RETURN TACKS ARE FROM THE FINAL! IF YOU DON'T FIND
THE FINAL, YOU WON'T FIND THE RETURN TRAIL!
MARK YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE YOU START THE
HIKE!
The coordinates above will take you to the start of a trail into
Sinclair's Bush. Park at the corner and walk to the coordinates.
Once there, scan into the bush along the trail with your
flashlight. Hold your flashlight up beside
your head at eye level in order to see the fire tacks!
The trail is marked with fire tacks on trees at about eye level.
When you see the tack, go to it and stand beside the tree and scan
around you again as you did before. The tacks are close enough that
you will be able to see the next one from the one you are near.
They are NOT in a straight line, and do
not even follow the trail. This woodlot is very clear so
bushwhacking will not be a problem.
When you arrive at a tree with two fire tacks in a vertical
line, you need to hunt for a small camouflaged cache that is just a
bit bigger than a micro. In this you will get the coordinates to
input into your GPSr for the final location of the cache. It isn't
far away, but without your GPSr you will never find it!
After you have signed the log and hidden the cache again, scan
the area around you for the markers to guide you back out. The
return route will be more or less direct and will eventually follow
(sort of) an atv trail back out to the road. Remember, (if you
followed our recommendation) that you have your vehicle marked to
assist you in the direction to travel. There is little danger
involved here, because the woodlot you are in is limited. If you do
get disoriented, you will eventually come to the edge of the woods
and farmer's fields. Following the edge of the trees in either
direction will eventually get you back to the road and
civilization, but it will involve a longer hike!
Summer will bring lots of bugs! Rainy times will make some
areas muddy! You have been warned!
Have fun and play safe. We hope you enjoy hunting this cache as
much as we did hiding it, and We would appreciate any feedback,
pro, or con, on what you think of how it is set up.
FTF prize is a pair of ice cleats to fit any adult
boot.
