The cache is located on a knoll about 50 feet S of the purported Carroll County line which is apparently not marked - please take a waypoint if you find markers. It is pint-sized primarily for visibility, probably not a good place to leave geocoins. Visitors are encouraged to log the elevation they find.
According to USGS maps, the highpoint of Carroll County NH is not a peak but rather the downslope from some peak outside the county. Since some of the county boundaries have apparently never been surveyed and the slopes shown on contour maps are not particularly accurate there are perhaps 3 candidates for the HP other than the S slope of Sandwich Mtn presently recognized. This is one of them.
Most cachers will probably approach from the top of the Wildcat Ski Area, you can either ride or walk up. Hikers are advised to use the leftmost (Polecat) ski trail, which is sometimes mowed. No hiking or parking fee in warmer months, in winter both Wildcat and JSTF charge fees for trail use.
The bushwhack is less than .4 miles in spruce-fir forest. There are some very thick areas where I got 0 bars on the GPS after having 6 a hundred feet earlier, but they can be bypassed by proper route selection which I did on my return. It wouldn't hurt to bring a compass in case you carelessly wander into one, though. The area around the cache is not particularly thick.
Campfires and backcountry camping are allowed in the National Forest but the ground is rough near the cache so bring a hammock or thick pad!
Optionally log your elevation at the cache, and at Wildcat E or the top of the ski area if you go that way. I got 3920 at the cache and 4057 at Wildcat E which is above what the map shows.
