Geocache Description:

I invite you all to do the charleston dance on your way around my 4th caching trail in Charlton Forest.

The nearby village of Cocking is a short drive north of the car park. In the 2001 census Cocking had 190 households with a total population of 459.

The Trail :-

Park at cockhill cark park at N50 56.558 W000 45.340. Beware, if driving here the entrance is concealed and comes up suddenly !. There is a bus stop next to the car park.

This is a circular walk of about 10 miles. The entry to the trail is opposite the car park and up hill, and is part of the South Downs Way.

Half a mile south of cache 7 there is East Dean. There is an excellent pub there called the Star and Garter (you have got to try the mixed grill !!)

As you walk around keep your eye open for lots of deer, and an old building near cache 5

At cache 12 you will be walking on a well used roadway (stone faced not tarmac). You need to use a cut through on your right at N50 56.437 W000 42.741 to take you onto the south downs way.

After cache 13 look to your right. You will see some tumuli. These are marked on the OS map and are large bumps in the ground which are raised over graves. Interesting to think what people were doing around here hundreds of years ago.

Additional Info :-

Trail length :- 8.3 miles / 14 caches + 1 bonus
Suggested parking : N50 56.558 W000 45.340
