Chairs - Ghetto Memorial Traditional Geocache

Obecnie plac jest dość niecodziennym pomnikiem ofiar krakowskiego getta, które istniało tu w latach 1941-43. Ustawiono na nim kilkadziesiąt krzeseł wykonanych z metalu, które symbolizują rzeczy wyrzucane na ówczesny Plac Zgody po wywózce mieszkańców do obozu koncentracyjnego w Płaszowie. Architekci zaczerpnęli pomysł z książki Tadeusza Pankiewicza "Apteka w getcie krakowskim", w której autor opisał likwidację getta. Plac po przebudowie - pomnik - otwarto w grudniu 2005 r.

The Ghetto Heros Square (formerly Plac Zgody - Concord Square) is now an unusual memorial to residents of Kraków Ghetto. The ghetto existed under Nazi Germany occupation from 1941 to 1943. When the ghetto was liquidated thousands of Jews were deported to the nearby Nazi labor camp in Plaszow. Those who were not able to work were killed and others were deported to Auschwitz concentration camp.

The memorial consists of several dozens of chairs that are reminiscent of the ghetto liquidation. Jews that had to go to the camp left their belongings, including chairs, in the square.

The designers of the memorial were inspired by a book by Tadeusz Pankiewicz (Apteka w getcie krakowskim) who run a pharmacy (Pod Orlem) in the ghetto. The author, whose pharmacy provided ghetto residents not only with drugs but helped them to survive, described the life in the ghetto and its liquidation.
