This is the second part of the first mysterycache at Elba. It belongs to the complete serie of 4 geocaches which shows you the life of Napoleon on Elba and allows you to discover his secrets.
To solve the price-winning secret of “ Napoleon’s secrets #4: il finàle ” (nr. 4), you’ll have to find the codes in the geocaches
“ Napoleon’s secrets #1: Invèrno ” ,
in this cache “ Napoleon’s secrets #2: Estàte ” and in
“ Napoleon’s secrets #3: Aqua di vita " at first.
It’s possible to find and log nr. 1, 2 and 3 separately.
INTRODUCTION:
Elba and Napoleon: two names who are connected to each other forever.
A special part of Napoleon’s life was his exile to Elba, which lasted about 300 days, from 3rd May 1814 until 26th February 1815.
He exiled voluntarily, because his army suffered many losses in the battles in Russia and at Leipzig. During his stay he realized a immense grow of the prosperity for the citizens of Elba: he took care for a better roadsystem, built a strong harbour-defense of Porto Azurro and developed the wine trade and mining-industry very firmly.
The little man with the large deeds will always be remembered and deserves his own geocache!
Now it’s time to find the big secrets of the little Napoleon!
NAPOLEON’S SECRET #2: ESTÀTE
On the 3th May 1814 Napoleon arrived because of his exile with 850 soldiers in de harbourtown Portoferraio. He didn't live during his exile in a small shack. During this period he used the “Villa di San Martino” as his summer-residence at 5 km from Portoferraio. This simple country house was a gift from his sister Pauline. Besides the Villa is the impressive “Palazzo Demidoff”. Both buildings earn your visit. You’ll find the original house art from Napoleon’s time, many equipments and there are regularly art-exhibitions.Not bad for an exile...
