The Three Sisters…and Grammy
It was the turn of the 20th century and William McKinley was in the White House. The United States was coming out of a depression and foreign policy matters dominated the news.
It was at this time that three families from the Western part of Massachusetts decided to build summer retreats at the south point of Biddeford Pool, ME. This cache, is dedicated to the three homes that were built for those families or as they are now known “The Three Sister Houses.”
If you turn around and look towards the south point you will see the three homes which are almost identical. One at the corner of Seventh St. and Ocean Ave and two more that extend out towards the point. The three families summered in Biddeford Pool throughout the 20th century. The house furthest out on the point was owned by the family of Laura Ingells Wilder of “Little House on the Prairie” fame. If you turn towards the water, you will see one of the most beautiful ocean views in the world. If your blood pressure does not drop 20 points while visiting this cache, then please make an appointment to see a doctor.
The end of the 20th century brought change to Biddeford Pool which included the sale of all three of the “Sister Houses.” It was at this time that Grammy bought the third of the three sister houses. (The corner house.) She can often be seen on the porch, rocking in her white wicker chair reading a book and watching the waves crash on the rocks. Please give Grammy a wave if you walk by and see her on the porch. Please don’t mention that Grammy is not one of the original “sisters,” because although the sisters really refer to homes, Grammy believes she is an honorary sister and this could be devastating to her if she were to discover the truth!
This was our first cache. We decided to place at our favorite place on earth. This is a kid friendly cache, because climbing on the rocks is cool whether you are looking for a cache or not. It is also a nice place to have a picnic. There is parking on the local streets, but please be considerate of the street signs and the home owners in the area. If you visit this one in the summer, there are a couple of neat shops that can be investigated and you can enjoy a lobster dinner or a nice bottle of wine while watching the boats coming into the harbor.
The cache has the usual variety of stuff. We added a camera and please take a picture of yourselves if it is there and make a trade. We set up the ftf with a pin, a wristband and a small cash award. Getting to the cache is not hard, but finding it may be!
Please re-hide the cache exactly where and how you found it. To keep muggles away and to keep it from floating away it is important that it remain in its original hiding location.
