Geocache Description:


The picnic area here is the site of the Lol Gray Tree Fire Tower built in 1930 and used by the Forest Department for the early detection of fires.From the picnic area a 3.2km walk loop will take you down the old telegraph line and thru diverse heathlands,allow 1hour.
In the 1920s parts of the Dryandra woodlands were set aside for the protection of mallet after being nearly wiped out, the bark was used in tanning leather, from 1923 to 1933 4000hectares of mallet were planted by sustenance workers and the trees survive to this day.
A cottage was built here for the resident overseer in 1925 and moved to the Dryandra settlement in 1940 and is beleived to be the oldest existing example of a forest workers cottage
The cache is a small 500ml screw top container and has the usual asortment of goodies plus a FTF certificate
