South County Trail Cache, Coin Bank and TB Motel Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

HaLiJuSaPa: I think this cache has long run it's course and fortunately it appears there are no TB's left in there if it's even still in all of the overgrowth through the years. Thankfullly through those years a LOT of nearby caches have popped up thanks to the SCT "power trail" series, so this cache has long served it's use.

Good luck to anyone who wants to put another cache nearby in a better area and thanks for the memories!

Geocache Description:

Small Tupperware container just off a paved trail in Ardsley, NY

This cache is our first attempt at a "Travel Bug Hotel". We are calling it a "Motel" since there is a real motel near this cache.

This paved trail, popular with joggers, bikers and rollerblades, is called the South County Trailway. It is the remains of the old Putnam Division of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad right of way. It goes from Yonkers to Elmsford and you can see many remains of old stations, electric poles, etc.

The cache is just a few feet in from the trail yet very well hidden, please rehide exactly as found. It is "kid friendly" but it is a small but minor bushwack to the cache that may be tough for small kids (however if the kids are on the trail you will still be a very short safe distance from them when you grab the cache). There is a WG$1 as an FTF prize and a couple of state quarters as an STF prize. We have checked in 2 geocoins and a TB and have the usual regular cache goodies.

There are 2 small legal parking areas, both about 0.4 miles from the cache. One is south of the cache at Lawrence Street at N41.00.139 W73.51.349, the other north of the cache in Ardsley. For that one, turn into Elm Street from Rt. 9A by the motel and drive all the way down until you see signs that say "Trail Parking" or something similar with an entrance to the paved trail. Parking at the motel or the office buildings near this parking area to be a bit closer to the cache is at your own risk (i.e. not sure if you'll be ticketed or towed). If you come from that parking area, there'll be a nice bridge along the way where while hiding this we saw a beaver and some fish in the Saw Mill River (they have really cleaned this river up in the last few years!). Enjoy!
