Karystos is located in the southern part of Evia, Greece’s second-largest island. Above Karystos looms Mt.Ohi, Evia’s second-highest peak. The oldest archeological site of this area is a Hellenistic temple known as the drakospito (the dragonhouse),on Mt. Ohi’s summit.
If you want to search for this cache you are invited to climp up to this summit. There are signed paths that leads you up there and you will need about 1,5 hour to go. You can leave your car at 38 04.042N, 24 27.513E. There you will find a kiosk and signs for the begining of the path that go down to Dhmosari canyon.
Eastward begin a heavy dirty road with direction to the summit which you will follow for the first 250m. At your left you will find the signs where begin the path to the summit. The signs are sort piles of rocks and many of them have the last rock red colored. From that point you have to follow these piles. Have with you lot of water, properly shoes for climping, hat for the sun and sun protection products if you go in summertime.
At 38 03.673N, 24 27.843E which is at 2/3 of the whole route you will find water.The views from the top of Ohi over the chestnut tree forest towards the Cyclades Islands of Andros, Tinos and Mykonos are breathtakingly.
When you will arrive at the top you will find the church of Profete Elias and 2-3 stone buildings. Pass through the church and the stone buildings and continue following the sort piles of stones. There are 200 meters more until the top of the mountain where you will found the dragonhouse.
