Straight forward 2-step multi/puzzle cache. 100 yards from parking
to first stage coordinates; round trip from parking, to 1st stage,
to final and back to parking = .45 miles. Bring a
pen/pencil/CALCULATOR for some basic math to calculate the final's
location (which is 150 ft. off of a limestone trail and a quick
walk from stage 1.)
** Updated 5/7/10 **
This one takes you to a historical marker containing a fun-fact
from Oak Brook's history as Paul Butler's estate. You'll use clues
obtained from the marker to determine the final cache's hiding
spot.
The parking waypoint below is for the Oak Brook Public Library
(which is also a great starting point for a bike ride on the Oak
Brook Bike Path!!) If you are on your bike for this find, the
parking waypoint brings you right to the bike rack at the west edge
of the lot.
Here are your instructions which will make perfect sense once you
get to "Ground Zero":
12 lines total on the plaque. ("Fox Hunt" is line 1)
1) Read line 4 and write down the two, 4-digit, years.
2) Read line 6 then face the first road mentioned.
3) Do Line 10, minus the word “to”.
4) From Line 6 & 7: Face the 2nd road mentioned.
5) Bend your knees.
6) Find, retrieve and write down the two numbers provided
7) Create two equations to determine the final coordinates like
this:
(First number) X (1st year) = North Coordinates (round to 3 decimal
places and spread the result out in the typical way N##
##.###)
(Second number) X (second year) = West Coordinates (Again, round to
3 decimal places and spread the result out in the typical way W0##
##.###)
Optional (but very funny) extra credit activity while at the first
stage: Make a complete sentence from line 11 plus line 3.
A photo would be a nice touch! (A big
THANKS to ChicagoCindy for the first "extra credit" photo!! Take a
look in the gallery.)
The hint below is for the final if you need it.
Good luck and have fun!
Congrats to Puggle1 for the FTF!!
