To get to Treman State Park, turn onto Route 327 from Route 13 at
the south end of Ithaca. You can enter from the lower or the upper
end and will find plenty of parking here. Trail maps are available.
If you come in from the lower end, you will have a hike up a
beautiful gorge, past waterfalls which include the 115-foot Lucifer
falls. The hike is about 2 miles each direction and is stunning. If
you approach from above, none of that is between you and the cache.
Even if you decide to start at the top of the gorge, don’t miss
hiking down for a while to see this amazing place. The cache is off
one of the trails and is a green ammo can. Please hide it again
when you leave because it will be too obvious if left out in the
open. Please do not leave any food in this cache. You can bring
your dog to this park but leashes are required. The park has
camping, swimming in a pool below a waterfall, an old mill, and
picnic areas. Gorge trails are closed in the winter.
The ratings: From the closest parking, it is 1.5 difficulty, 1.5
terrain. From the lower end of the gorge, the terrain rating
changes to a 3.
While you’re in the area you might want to check out the rest of
town.. a great pedestrian shopping Commons, the Cornell campus, and
other local parks, waterfalls, glens, and gorges. It’s a great
town.
