Low Rigg Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

belbincolne: Knew this had to have gone. The small outcrop in which it was placed had been demolished over the years so rather than keep a now damp spot going I've found two new spots for replacement caches so you'll have something extra to go for. After 2 days of torrential rain the new spots were dry so I'm hopeful that they'll be available for a few years to come.

Geocache Description:

Thirlmere to Castlerigg 6

For the introduction to the trail see High Rigg - Top o' the First Rise.

This cache can easily be done on its own from the parking on the minor road to the church/youth centre. Take the footpath north and over the stile. Low Rigg itself is to the left and contains plenty of suitable hidey-holes but there were muggles intent on spending the day there so seeing this little rock outcrop only some thirty metres from the path I found a placement there.

It contains a pencil, notebook and originally a 50 dinar coin.

You can now carry on to Tewit Tarn and from there to the Castlerigg Stone Circle (caches 7 and 8 for this purpose) or return to the church and go down the road a little way to return to Thirlmere by way of the pleasant bridleway/footpath above St John's Beck
