Meeting Point Mystery Cache

Os criadores desta cache desejam uma boa vinda ao Meeting Point, um ponto de partida para conhecer novas pessoas no mundo do geocaching.

The creators of this cache wish to welcome you to the Meeting Point, a starting point to make new acquaintances in the geocaching world.

Parece-nos que todos gostam de conhecer pessoas novas, como tal vimos sugerir este meio para aumentar os vossos contactos e quem sabe fazer novos amigos e encontrar uma alma gémea. O nosso objectivo não é que encontrem a cache final, isso é secundário, mas que alarguem os vossos horizontes.

Se aceitarem o nosso desafio vamos levar-vos mais além do que o ponto de partida, um pequeno largo na centenária cidade do Porto, vamos testar a vossa capacidade de comunicação e de trabalho em equipa.

Esta singular puzzle / multicache está dividida em três partes, a primeira já sabem onde é, a segunda, e aqui é que a coisa se complica, está em Los Angeles nos EUA e a final está num local surpresa que com a vossa colaboração assim se manterá para todos.

Por esta altura já devem ter percebido que vão ter que contar com a ajuda de um geocacher estrangeiro para chegar ao final, é esse o desafio desta cache, conhecer alguém novo que esteja disposto a fazer equipa consigo. O geocacher que o ajudar ganha o direito a registar o achamento desta cache após a final ser encontrada.

It seems to us that everyone likes to meet someone new, as such we are suggesting this way of doing so. Our goal is not the finding of the final cache, that comes in second place,  but that you ended this cache saying that you have met another geocacher.

If you accept this challenge we are going to take you far away from the starting point, a lovely small square in the heart of the old city of Porto, we are going to test your communication and team work skills.

This rather unique puzzle / multicache is divided in three parts, the first one you already know where it is, the second and it's here that the things get rough, is in Los Angeles, USA and the final one is in a surprise location that with your colaboration will remain as such for the other geocachers.

By now you may have guessed that you need the help of a foreign geocacher to reach the end, that's our challenge, to meet someone new that is willing to team up with you. The geocacher that helps you has the right to register the found of this cache after the final is found.

O ponto de partida

No ponto de partida desta cache vai encontrar alguns monumentos dignos de nota, a saber:

Igreja de São João Novo

A igreja pertencia ao Convento dos Eremitas Calçados de Santo Agostinho. Foi construída nos séculos XVII-XVIII, um pouco acima da ermida de São João de Belomonte. Revela a influência da Igreja dos Grilos, pela composição da fachada e pelo ordenamento do interior.

Palácio de São João Novo

Palácio construído no segundo quartel do séc. XVIII, pelo arquitecto António Pereira. Foi residência de Pedro da Costa Lima, fidalgo da Casa Real que exerceu diversos cargos na cidade, como o de administrador do Trem do Ouro. São dignos de nota a fachada principal e no interior, a escadaria nobre.

Muralha Fernandina

A segunda cinta de muralhas começou a ser construída por D. Afonso IV. Terminou-se em 1376, já no reinado de D. Fernando - dai a designação de "fernandina". Nela se abriram quatro portas, defendidas por torres, e 14 postigos. Este imponente lanço da muralha corre ao lado das Escadas do Caminho Novo e prolonga-se até ao casario, pela Rua Francisco Rocha Soares. Ai ainda se vê um dos cubelos entre os telhados.

The starting point

In the cache starting point you are going to see the following monuments:

São João Novo Church

The church was built in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries, near an old small church. The composition of the facade and the interior are examples of the mannerist influence.

São João Novo Palace

This palace was built in the second quarter of the XVIIIth century by the architect Antonio Pereira as an aristocratic residence. Noteworthy features are the main facade and the interior staircase.

The City Walls

The second belt of the city walls was built in the XIVth century and finished during the reign of King D. Fernando. There were four gates defended by towers and fourteen narrow entrances. This imposing stretch of wall runs along the Caminho Novo steps and continues on through the Rua Francisco Rocha Soares.

O segundo ponto

Centinela Adobe, também conhecida como a "Casa da la Centinela", é uma casa em tijolos de argila construída em 1834. É explorada como museu pela Historical Society of Centinela Valley, e é considerada uma das mais bem preservadas casas em argila das 43 que restam no condado de Los Angeles. A casa era a sede do Rancho Centinela que tinha 25 000 hectares. Esta casa, que é a residência mais antiga de Inglewood, California, foi construída em 1834 por Don Ignacio Machado. Desde então, lavradores, rancheiros e um escocês e fundador de Inglewood, Daniel Freeman, viveram nesta casa. Além de ser o edifício mais antigo desta área é conhecido como o local de nascimento de Inglewood

The second waypoint

Known as the "Centinela Adobe", this ranch house is considered to be one of the most magnificently preserved smaller adobes in Los Angeles County. It was built in 1834 by Don Ignacio Machado and was the headquarters of over 25,000 acres of ranch land. The Centinela Adobe is considered the "Birthplace of Inglewood", the modern city which was formed upon the land grant known as "Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela". The old house and accompanying acreage passed through many hands over the years. One owner was of Scottish royalty and another was a Confederate General during the American Civil War.

Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela was formerly granted to Ignacio Machado in 1844. When translated, Aguaje de la Centinela means, "The Gathering Waters of the Sentinel". The area was named by early Spanish settlers at the beginning of the nineteenth century. After the founding of the pueblo of Los Angeles in 1781, the townspeople used the area as public pastureland for their cattle. This prime grazing land was about eight miles southwest of the pueblo and only four miles east of Santa Monica Bay. This location made livestock extremely vulnerable to attack or theft of pirates and privateers who were pillaging the coast of Spanish California in the early nineteenth century. The early settlers stationed sentinels in the area to guard the cattle. There was a hill in the vicinity, which the Spanish called "La Centinela". It had a commanding view of the Centinela Valley below. Bubbling springs, from a deep-water basin located 150 feet underground, began at the top of this hill. The Spanish named the springs "Aguaje de la Centinela" after the sentinel that stood guard upon the lonely hilltop.

A Cache

Procuramos criar caches acessíveis mas engraçadas, não são o ponto fulcral neste jogo.

Em cada uma das caches intermédias vai encontrar as coordenadas e a dica da cache seguinte.

A dica listada refere-se à primeira cache.

O tamanho do segundo e do contentor final é pequeno.

Foi colocado um logbook na segunda cache para que o vosso parceiro de equipa registe a sua passagem por esse ponto.

Na segunda cache encontra-se o seguinte conteúdo: Logbook, stashnote e um Centinela Historical pin.

Na cache final vão encontrar o seguinte conteúdo: Logbook, stashnote, lápis, geocoin, TB, brinquedo e dois porta chaves.

Como em muitas coisas na vida há regras, para que o vosso achamento seja válido, estas são as seguintes:

O espírito desta cache impõe que um geocacher só pode ajudar uma única pessoa ou equipa, portanto verifique se o seu novo parceiro ou parceira não ajudou ou esteja a ajudar uma outra pessoa. Desta regra deriva que um geocacher não pode ajudar um grupo de geocachers, a única excepção são pais e filhos e conjugues.

Para que nós possamos saber quem é que ajudou quem, no seu registo de achamento tem que indicar o nickname do geocacher que o ajudou, da mesma forma a pessoa que o ajudou e encontrou a segunda cache tem que indicar no seu registo o seu nickname.

Embora seja possível percorrer sozinho todas as etapas desta cache, só aceitamos achamentos que estejam dentro do espírito da mesma, portanto é necessário a ajuda de um geocacher estrangeiro. Se você for um cidadão norte americano esta regra aplica-se com uma alteração, não necessita que seja um geocacher estrangeiro a encontrar a segunda cache mas um seu compatriota.

O sucesso desta puzzle / multicache depende de vós, por isso pedimos que não revelem elementos a mais sobre como as caches estão escondidas, e especialmente sobre o local onde vão ter no fim. Também agradecemos que não se publique fotografias demasiado explicitas do local final, queremos que o próximo geocacher tenha as mesmas expectativas e surpresa que teve.

Como um dos proprietários não é bilingue será simpático se no vosso registo de achamento escrevessem algo em inglês.

The Cache

We've tried to create amuzing and not so difficult to find caches, they aren't the main subject of this game.

In each of the intermediate caches you are going to find the coordinates and the hint of the next cache.

The size of the second and final container is small. The last one is a lock & lock container.

There's a logbook in the second cache so your team mate can log his or hers found.

In the second cache we've placed the following items: Logbook, stashnote and one Centinela Historical pin.

The final cache has the following initial contents: Logbook, stasnote, pencil, one geocoin, one TB, one toy and two key rings.

As in many things in life there's some rules to follow, they are the following:

The spirit of this cache imposes that one geocacher can only help another one or a team, so be certain that who is helping you hasn't helped or is helping someone else. This is to say that one geocacher cannot help a group of geocachers the only exception being the case of parents and sons and couples.

In order for us to know who has helped who, in your log you must state the nickname of the geocacher that teamed up with you. The geocacher that has helped you must state your nickname as well in his or hers log.

Although it's possible to find all the caches alone we only accept founds that followed the spirit of this cache, so you need the help of a foreigner geocacher. If you are a north american citizen this rule applies with a small twist, you can use the help of a fellow countryman.

This puzzle / multicache success depends on you, so we ask you not to reveal too much details of how the caches are hidden and specialy of the final place. We will also be thankfull if you don't publish too much explicit photographs of the final place. We want the geocacher that follows you to have the oportunity of having the same surprise and expectations that you have had.
