The co-ords listed are not the cache location. They are for the
Parish Church of Saint Mary in Goudhurst.
St Mary's Church was built in the 13th - 15th centuries although
the tower is of more recent date. The original tower, surmounted by
a steeple, was struck by lightening and burnt down in 1637. It was
rebuilt in the 17th century. There are two remarkably fine wooden
effigies dating from the sixteenth century, carved and painted and
set into a purpose-built bay window. In the south chapel, the walls
are crammed with monuments and there are three brasses, one of
which is covered by a stone canopy - not particularly grand but
unexpected and functional.
If you have time it is well worth the stairs up the tower
– open most Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the summer for
a small charge. It is said that on a clear day you can spot no less
than 51 churches on a clear winter's day. Unfortunately no one in
living memory has spotted all 51!
