Sweepy: The brambles have taken over this area, so it is too difficult to keep clear, so have had to take the hard decision to archive it. Sweepy

This is rated two because of the likelihood of many muggles in fine weather. Please take your own pencil. For a quick cache and grab, parking is best at Hemingford Abbots – N52. 19.603 W000.07. 612. If you would enjoy a longer walk, then there is ample parking at Houghton Mill across the river (parking charges apply). Both villages have very nice pubs if you are in need of refreshment.
(There has been a bridge at this spot for many centuries. 'The Hemingford Bridge' is shown on a map of 1515. In 1947 floods washed away the old Black Bridge over this quiet backwater of the river Great Ouse and it was replaced by an redundant WW11 'Bailey Bridge'. This in turn became somewhat dilapidated and dangerous for farm vehicles, so in 2002 it was replaced by a new stronger metal bridge and was dedicated by the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridge. The bridge is on the N51 national cycle route, which is a circular route taking you through St.Ives, Houghton and Hemingford Abbots.
