The cache is located at the north end of a small, tree covered rocky knoll. It is a small lock ‘n lock container hidden under a moss covered rock near a young fir tree. It contains a log book, pencil, a few trade items and a FTF prize.
While driving by this area recently, I said to myself now that looks like an interesting spot for a cache. At high water this rocky knoll is an “island” surrounded by water, however, during late winter and early spring (and especially this year) when the water level is low, this knoll becomes easily accessible.
While walking across the dry lake bottom to the cache keep in mind that this use to be forest until a hydro dam built in the 1950’s created this unique landscape. You can still see evidence of what was once a forest. There are also some interesting rock formations along the way.
There are several ways to access this cache. The easiest (I think) is to park off the highway at the junction of a logging road (near co-ordinates N49 50.227 & W 125 38.185). Directly across the highway from this point is a short path which leads to the shoreline. Once on the shoreline I would recommend walking across the flats and along the east end of the “island”, then work your way towards the north end where you will find the cache hidden under some rocks above the high water mark (I hope) behind some trees.
During high water this cache is only accessible by boat, or swimming.
