La forêt de Fontainebleau est le troisième site le plus visité
de France, accueillant chaque année treize millions de visiteurs.
Elle est exploitée depuis le XIème siècle, et a été aménagée par
Colbert.
En terme de géologie, l'essentiel du massif est constitué par le
sable "de Fontainebleau", dépôt maritime tertiaire (Stampien
inférieur). Localement, le sable est consolidé en grès. Il repose
sur le calcaire de Brie (Sannoisien supérieur) et sur des marnes
vertes (Sannoisien moyen).
L'érosion a dégagé des couches de grès aux formes originales et
la nature du sol a permis richesse et diversité des végétaux et de
la faune. Parmi les formations rocheuses zoomorphes, vous pourrez
découvrir le diplodocus dans le massif des Trois Pignons,
l'éléphant de Larchant, la tortue d'Apremont ou encore le rocher du
"Cul du Chien", objet de cette "earthcache".
Cet étrange rocher en forme de tête de chien est posé sur une
sorte de lac de sable. Vous pourrez le voir en vous garant au
parking de Vaudoué (N48° 22.387 E 002° 30.662), et en marchant une
vingtaine de minutes dans cet endroit de la forêt particulièrement
dépaysant.
Pour loguer un "found it" sur cette cache, il sera nécessaire de
mettre dans le log une photo de vous à côté du rocher, et de me
répondre par mail aux 2 questions suivantes :
- de quand date la période du Stampien ?
- quelle est la hauteur approximative du rocher ?
Tout log sans photo et/ou pour lequel je n'aurai pas reçu la
bonne réponse par mail sera supprimé sans avertissement.

The forest of Fontainebleau is the third most visited site in
France, with about thirteen million visitors each year. It is
exploited since XIème century, and was arranged by Colbert.
In term of geology, the forest is mainly composed of "sand of
Fontainebleau", tertiary maritime deposit (lower Stampien).
Locally, sand is consolidated out of sandstone. It rests on a
limestone of Brie (higher Sannoisien) and on green marls (average
Sannoisien).
Erosion released layers of sandstone of original forms and the
nature of the ground allowed richness and diversity of plants and
fauna. Among those curious rock formations, you will be able to
discover the diplodocus in the "Forêt des Trois Pignons", the
elephant of Larchant, the turtle of Apremont or the rock of the
"Cul de Chien", object of this "earthcache".
This strange rock has the shape of a head of a dog, and is posed
on a kind of lake of sand. You will be able to see it by parking
you car on the parking de Vaudoué (N48° 22.387 E 002° 30.662), and
by walking about 20 minutes in this quiet place of the forest.
To log a "found it" on this earthcache, it will be necessary to
add to your log a picture of you beside that particular rock, and
to answer me by e-mail the 2 following questions:
- what is the age of the Stampien period ?
- which is the approximate height of the rock ?
Any log without photograph and/or for which I will not receive
the good answer by e-mail will be removed without warning.
