There is a coulee that lies to the East of Lake Lenore few people know about. It is a steep 350-400 ft. climb up through a gap of 1540 ft. elevation in the bluff and a steep decend down the the coulee floor. There is a good cattle trail that you can follow towards the cache location.
At the North end of this coulee lies a lake that is showing signs of disappearing. I am estimating that once the water level may have been 50 to 60 feet higher. and the lake may have been about 3-4 times its size as ot today.The cache is hid at the top of the last lake view observation point of this small body of water, on the floor of this coulee.
The Coulee on the back side of Lake Lenore has some unique features. The floor of the coulee has numerous small coulee that have the appearence of large maze. We had fun navigating our way across up and down and through these small coulees.
Another attraction to exlpore near here is the petrolgyph and find the cache hid close by.
Regardless what time of the year you need to wear the proper foot ware. and carry plenty of water. It is advisible to set a few additional way points so as to find a direct way back out.
Take along a camers as you may not have seeen anything like this before.
Additional Warnings:
1) Cougar have been spotted in this area. It
is advisable not to hike alone and always be aware.
2)This is also rattlesnake country so watch
where you step or reach your hands.
3) The land down below in the coulee is open
land for cattle grazing. Please give wide berth to any cattle you
may encounter.
4) For your safety and to coexist with another
popular sport, please refrain from going into the coulee during
hunting season which runs from September 1st until the end of
November.
5) The land between this cache, and The Amazing Petroglyph cache, and The Land Lost in Time by The Navigatorz is public land. Please limit your journey to these
caches only. There is privately owned land about 1/4 mile South of
the petroglyph, and private land just to the North of my
cache. These areas are not posted, but they are known to be private
property, so please keep out of those areas.
