Enjoy a gentle quarter mile walk through a needle-carpeted pine forest to a sandy beach with scenic views of Buttermilk Bay.
Follow a short trail from the parking area to cross Head of the Bay Road and pick up the trail to the cache. Trailhead coordinates are provided under additional waypoints.
Formerly a private fishing camp dating back to 1867, the 210-acre Theodore Lyman Reserve sits at the mouth of Red Brook on Buttermilk Bay. The Reserve is open from sunrise to sunset. This cache will bring you to part of the property that features a scenic stretch of coastal shoreline with views of Buttermilk Bay and the iconic Cape Cod Canal vertical lift railroad bridge from a sandy beach.
The cache container is a regular sized lock-n-lock. You will only need to bushwhack about 60 feet into the wooded area if you enter from the beach.
Thanks to Iceland and Z-gang, whose now archived Buttermilk Bay Cache (GCGH42) first introduced me to this lovely area.
