Maravilla de la naturaleza, situada entre el paraje de la Fuente de la Calzada y el Pico Espadán en el término municipal de Algimia de Almonacid (Castellón)

A wonder of nature, which is located between the site of the Source of Calzada and Pico Espadan in the municipality of Algimia de Almonacid (Castellón).
La cueva tiene una profundidad de 20 metros y su decoración son las estalactitas y estalagmitas que se fueron creando poco a poco, gota tras gota durante una época en la que el clima exterior era frío y húmedo. La creación de cada formación dependía de la filtración de agua a través de la roca caliza. Al caer cada gota, iba absorbiendo dióxido de carbono del aire y el suelo, creando una especie de lluvia ácida. Durante su filtración a través de la roca, la acidez iba disolviendo la caliza, absorbiendo la gota una pequeña cantidad de calcita. Una vez llegada a la gruta, el monóxido de carbono se evaporaba en el aire de la cueva y la gota no era capaz de seguir manteniendo la calcita disuelta, por lo que se iba depositando ese mineral en pequeños cristales de calcita. Billones y billones de gotas más tarde, se crearon las formaciones.
Para llegar a ella, desde Algimia de Almonacid por la CV-215 en dirección a Castellón, dejar la carretera en el Collado de La Nevera (N 39º 54.805 W 0º 23.344) y seguir hasta una curva del camino (coche N 39º 54.460 W 0º 23.496W) en donde comienza el sendero que sube hasta su boca.
La entrada a la cueva es una rampa de unos siete metros la cual nos adentra en el interior de la gran sala y en el centro de la cavidad.
La cueva es una gran sala iluminada por una luz tenue que nos proporciona un orificio situado en lo mas alto de la bóveda. Se pueden admirar formaciones de estalagmitas y estalactitas de una gran belleza.
Al fondo de la cueva y un poco difícil de encontrar, hay un paso muy estrecho a ras de suelo en cuyo interior se encuentra una pequeña sala llamada "La Sacristía".
Para visitar la cueva, resulta imprescindible iluminación y calzado apropiado.
Recuerda respetar el entorno evitando romper las muchas formaciones creadas a lo largo de millones de años.
