Belle-Beille hier faisait partie du quartier Saint Jacques. L’Abbé Alexis Bouin, Curé de Saint Jacques, aimait s’en aller jusqu’au bord de l’étang, à proximité de la passerelle. Il venait admirer la niche creusée dans le roc vers 1830, fermée d’une grille, qui renfermait une statue vénérable de Notre Dame du lac. Celle-ci avait été installée là par un gardien de biques. Cet oratoire fut définitivement aménagé en 1927. Il est même devenu lieu de pèlerinage, là où les Jésuites et les gars de Saint Jacques, et beaucoup de scolaires d’Angers aimaient venir se promener.
