A scenic drive by.
From the direction of Ullswater turn right off the A592 just past the pub at the top of Kirkstone Pass, on to a minor road – this is known as the "Struggle" – be careful it WILL test your driving skills but your passenger will enjoy fantastic views 
!
In days gone by horse drawn coaches travelled the rough road and it was a struggle for the horses to make the ascent to the top of the pass and passengers were required to get out of the coach and walk to the top. Hence the road became known as The Struggle. Today with so much horsepower on this little road the struggle becomes a completely different one!
For an interesting and all round scenic circular drive this can be combined with THE SCENIC ROUTE with a slight detour to take in a drive by at Red Pit car park (BROTHERS WATER VIEW).
