Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is located on the shore of 3 Mile Pond adjacent to the
owner's home.
Parking for this cache is at the Public Boat Ramp off route 3 in
Vassalboro (N 44 22.773, W 069 36.953) If you're going to walk in
during winter months, you will be about 1.6 Miles north of the
cache when you park. There is no other public access so unless you
receive permission from a landowner, please respect the privacy
rights of others. The road to my home is privately maintained by
myself and 29 other landowners. I am NOT authorized to give
permission to my fellow cachers to access this cache by the
Pierce's Point Road thus the 5 rating on terrain. Sorry! Now for
the good news, if Dianne and I are home you might be invited up for
a beverage if we're home. You are also likely to meet our labs, Bo
and Nick, both social butterflies and friendly. The cache is
located just about on shore but folks in canoes, kayaks or boats
will be able to get it without leaving their vessel. Boaters, be
aware that it is very shallow. All of you that visit in August or
late summer will be "treated" to our annual algae bloom. 3 Mile
Pond is a TMDL Lake which means that the Total Maximum Daily Load
of phosphorous in the pond causes the lake to bloom. Algae is a
plant, phosphorous in a rich nutrient, ergo the green pond you will
witness when the lake is in bloom. You will note that much of the
shore line has been rip rapped with stone to minimize erosion
courtesy of the China Lakes Region Association which I founded in
1996. Enjoy the pond. This cache is only large enough for flat
small objects, ie geo-coins! There will be 2 nice coins to chose
from for FTF. Congratulations to parklanegeese for FTF, her very
FIRST FTF! as of July 25,2010. As the cache is only accessible by
boat or kayak you will have to get out of either to get the cache
and then it's a bit of a "stretch" to reach the cache unless your
an NBA player. You'll see when Jason posts his pics. I'll change it
back when the lake freezes. I am updating the difficulty
