A beautiful spot high up on Kratka Ridge...
This is one of my favorite backcountry ski/snowboard spots in this part of the San Gabriels. In the Winter and early Spring, snow can pile up pretty deep in these canyon slots. Often the snow can hold here well into April or even May...(I hope...)...
With snow on the mountain the ways up can be a little more difficult to spot. There is a "fire road" that meanders its way up towards the top, but often times you can spot "boot pack" tracks leading generally straight up. With no snow, the going is no less steep, but a little easier to find your way. The ski area here is leased privately from the Forest Service. There should not be any issues in accessing the high ridge involved in this cache-find. If there is any sort of "security" presence at the place (usually on busy weekends..), it is usually trying to keep people out of the facilities and buildings... try to be friendly and cooperative and there should not be any problems
This cache is an old army mess kit painted to blend into its surroundings. It is large enough for trade items, and is filled with some goodies to start it off.
This one is an excellent hike any time of the year, but if you can get up here before the snow melts, bring your snowshoes, skis, boards or whatever... just bring your camera... you're gonna want it!!!
