Located near a very large tree in a very small park with a pond in North Hills / Searingtown. Park on Old Searingtown Road.
On December 2, 1939 Edward S. Harkness donated 34 acres of land in North Hills to the Nassau County (now Theodore Roosevelt) Council of the Boy Scouts of America to be used as a camp. The property was located at the southeast corner of I.U. Willets and Shelter Rock Roads.
I "earned" Cooking Merit Badge at Camp Harkness a long time ago with the world's most underdone chicken cooked over a fire.
The land was subsequently sold off and houses were built. I had hoped to hide this cache somewhere on the former grounds, but, sadly, no open space was left except around the former Council headquarters on Shelter Rock Road, now the North Hills Synagogue. I stumbled across the cache area while driving around.
Cache is a Lock 'N Lock originally containing a collection of small camping items; bug repellant, carabineers, emergency blanket, fire starters, match container and a whistle. Signal Pin for FTF.
