The Feathers is located just off the old Vantage highway in the
Frenchman Coulee. To get there take the Silica Road exit off of
I-90 (between Vantage and George) and drive down the canyon towards
Wanapum Reservoir. This stretch of road is very scenic. Before
arriving at The Feathers if you look North across the Coulee you
may see this waterfall. Looking
west, the coulee extends
towards the Columbia River. As you continue west, the first
basaltic columns you see on your left are The Feathers. After
finding the cache, take a short walk up to the columns. There is
an opening in the center where you can walk through. On the back
side is a horseshoe shaped basin called Echo Basin. The large
monolith in the center is called Agathla Tower.
This area is popular with rock climbers. I took this photo of a
climber as he was
descending from the top of one of The Feathers. Please look out
for muggles. There may be a climber sitting on top of one of the
columns watching your activity at the cache.
Nearby caches (See MAP):
Snake Den (GC4F9C) located 0.4 miles SW in Echo Basin.
Frenchman Coulee Rib (GCKV9Y) located 0.8 miles W towards the
point.
NOTE: There is a pull off area next to the road near the cache
large enough for one vehicle. A parking permit is not required
there. If you park in the main parking area, you will need to
purchase a $12 parking permit issued by the Department of Fish and
Wildlife.
