Mountains Sinai
Big seismological and eruptive activite have given Sinai its characteristic profile.
The highest mountains are theMoses' mountain (Gebel Musa) and the Mount St. Catherine (Gebel Kathrina).
Geology
The major landscape of Sinai is desert. She here extremely change color and form.
Landscape being formed in millions of years in which nature has created splendid, singular sculptures of the rock.
Next to sand you find limestone, crystalline rock, sandstone and vulcanic rocks.
The northern part of Sinai mainly consists of sandstone plains and hills.
Between the northern and the southern area are towering mountainous peaks.
Position and placing
Sinai, the triangular peninsula of Egypt, is situated between Asia and Africa.
The separation of the two continents caused the geographical shape of Sinai.
Sinai peninsula is 380 km long (north - south) and 210 km wide (west - east). The surface area has an of 61.000 km.
The coasts sea are 600 km long from the west on to east. On the western part there is the Gulf of Suez (with the Suez channel)
and on the eastern part of Sinai is deeper Gulf of Aqaba. The sea in the Gulf of Suez measures 80 meters only,
while the profile of the Gulf of Aqaba goes down to 1.830 meters.
Surrounding desert
The Sinai desert is very arid, because here are very small rainfall and the fast evaporation caused by the high daytime heat. Is here a complex ecosystem with different types of plants, which are adapted to this difficult environment. Even is here a heterogeneous fauna and is part of this desert. Are it wild foxes, rodents, gazelles, reptiles, raptors and various insectivores. Most parts if the peninsula is rocky and mountainous, with some sandy places. These sandy areas are mostly located in the central areas and were created by the pulverization of the rocks erosion and meteor.

Colors rank from light white via yellow and red to dark black.
The combination of these colours seen against the dark blue of the mostly cloudless
sky is a breath-taking experience every minute. Especially in the mornings (6-9 a.m.)
and in the evenings (4-6:30 p.m.) the sun is giving an intense light that illuminates the
desert in the most beautiful photo scene. Photographers find a perfect time to capture the most colors atmosphere.
