Clyne Farm Centre and Clyne Estate are situated on the gateway
to The Gower Peninsula. Once the Home Farm for the Clyne Castle
Estate, the centre offers self catering accommodation in converted
cottages and barns (2- 51 persons). On the main site there are
seven cottages sleeping from 2 up to 14 persons in each. There are
also three camping fields accommodating 30-40 pitches. Camping
prices are:- ages 6 to adult £5.00 per person per night, under 5s
free. Sorry the site is unable to take caravans or motorhomes.
Please contact the centre to arrange your booking.
Dogs are allowed but due to the resident animals must be kept on a
lead at all times.
Available on site are a wide range of activities such as horse
riding, archery, climbing, canoeing, rock hopping (coasteering),
gorge walking (canyoning) and team building courses. Home of the
muddiest assault course in the world! Activities are open to
residents and non-residents alike. The centre enjoys stunning
panoramic views over Swansea Bay and Mumbles. With Clyne Valley
Country Park and Clyne Golf Club framing it's borders, the centre
has easy access to the city of Swansea and the old fishing village
of Mumbles, together with Gower's spectacular and beautiful
beaches.
The event centre will be situated in the Dining Hall and will be
open from 10:00am to 4:30pm on Saturday 3rd May. Geocachers will be
able to sign the event log, trade TB's and Geocoins, pick up
information on new local caches and buy tickets for the raffle
organised by Derrylynne which will be drawn in the afternoon. The
proceeds once again will be donated to the Central Beacons Mountain
Rescue Team. www.cbmrt.org.uk
We hope they will attend this year for a demonstration if they are
not too busy. There will also be refreshments available throughout
the day.

One of
the Camping Fields |
Updated 11th April 2008.
Well, everyone its three weeks to go so time we updated
you with some information on the activities that will be happening
over the event weekend.
|
Derrylynne are kindly organising the raffle this year, tickets
will be available from the event centre throughout the day with the
draw taking place at 4:00pm. Once again the proceeds are
being donated to the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team. There
are some great prizes up for grabs and it's all for a good
cause. |
|
Once again
Mollyjak have kindly agreed to organise a quiz/scavenger hunt for
the children there will be a goodie bag for every child who enters
and prizes for those who best complete the challenges.
Question
forms will be available from the event centre. |
|
An informal
“bring your own” barbeque will be held at the campsite on Saturday
evening, giving everyone a chance to chill out and catch up stories
of the days activities over a drink or two. |
|
A new
addition to this year’s event will be a scarecrow making
competition. You’ll have to go with us on this one as we will
probably make up the rules as we go along but so far the idea is,
we provide some wooden scarecrow frames and the entrants bring,
beg, steal or borrow items to make the best looking scarecrow. This
will take place on the Saturday evening in the camping field.
Thanks to Liz of Write and Mane for ‘encouraging’ us to do
this. So start collecting those clothes.
The judges
decision will be final and probably unbiased. |
|
We are
already aware of several new caches planned for the event, thanks
to those geocachers for these. Visitors that are able
are asked to check for new caches that have been published on
Geocaching.com either the day before or early on the day of the
event.
If these
caches go live on the Saturday please could you bring some
printouts for those travelling to the event. We can then make them
available at the event centre. |
|
During the
event we will be encouraging the use of a specific channel on PMR
446 walkie talkies so that groups and individuals can keep in touch
with each other both while out and about and also at the event
location itself where we will be monitoring the channel throughout
the day.
The chanel
used for the event will be channel 3, CTCSS (privacy code) 33. In
order to be able to join in, you’ll need to have one of the
commonly available 8 channel walkie talkies that can be bought in
many locations from supermarkets to electronic hardware
stores. It is important however that you ensure that the
radio you use is also equipped to provide the 38 privacy
sub-channels as some of the cheapest radios don’t have this
enhancement. Other than this, almost any of these radios will
do. Unlike many radio platforms, there’s no formal protocol needed
to use these radios – no call signs, CB slang or any other “radio
talk” is required, though some may adopt their caching names as
identities!
If you’re
unsure about investing in a radio (typically they can be bought for
upwards of £30 a pair), but would like to have a go to see how
useful these can be when out and about with a group, several
volunteers have spare radios that they’re willing to lend to people
to try out during the two days of the event. |
|
On Sunday
it’s down to Challenge Valley for the Muddiest Assault Course in
the World!
We have
pre booked the course and have several people already lined up for
the challenge, let us know through our profiles if you would like
to give it a go. Take a look at this
page for more info. The cost is £18 per person, ages 8 and
above.
All those participating please
read the FAQ here
for what to wear/bring etc. |
It would help to organise the arrangements if notes
are posted to indicate likely attendance. Further information
will be posted as details are finalised over the coming
weeks, so you may wish to place the event on your watch list.
If anyone has individual queries about the event, local
accommodation, attractions, etc, please contact us by email:
we’ll do our best to help.
The event will be an opportunity to help Travel Bugs
on their way, especially if anyone will be off to an exotic
destination soon after. If you intend to bring any TBs,
“drop” them into the cache online a few days before the
event, with a note of their objectives. If you can help a bug
on the way to its objective, note this also. If you do
place/retrieve a TB at the event, make sure that you log it
promptly, keeping a note of its tracking number,
etc.
