Geocache Description:

A quick cache and dash easily available to all passing through Tyndrum, as it’s a stone’s roll from the village and right on the West Highland Way.

I had been intending to set up a cache in the village and call it something corny like “Give It Some Welly” but had to go further away from the excellent breakfast stop to find a suitable hide and another corny name seemed more appropriate.

It’s so easy you can nip out and bag the cache while your mate is getting his round in at Paddy’s!
Actually, I don’t know why I’m name-dropping as neither establishment needs the publicity and thankfully both seem to be thriving. In fact The Green Welly Stop’s latest newsletter comments that they welcomed over half a million visitors in the first 9 months of 2007, sold over 500 tonnes of beef, 5420 litres of ice cream and give employment to 85 people in this “very transient village”. We couldn’t make our visits to the area without them; well we could, but they wouldn’t be so enjoyable!

The small cache initially contains some goodies, a FTF badge and a TB that’s in a race during 2008 so somebody please grab it and move it on to another easy cache fast.

This cache is the 5th in a series placed during the visits that West Bromwich Mountaineering Club regularly makes to the hills. Unusually it is not near a summit but is the club’s first in Scotland and needs to be convenient so I can service it and not keep climbing the same Munro! WBMC is a friendly club with members (aged 6 months to 85 years) mainly drawn from a 25 mile radius of West Bromwich. It runs monthly coach trips (normally to the Lake District or Snowdonia), hostel and bothy weekends, European trips in summer and a winter week in Scotland. The club has its own hut with all mod cons in Nantgwynant and organises navigation skills, family weekends and ‘Old Timers’ Get-togethers there several times each year. It meets every Thursday at “The Globe”, Reform St. West Bromwich from 9pm (-ish) onwards. See www.westbromwichmc.co.uk for details of meets & events. This cache was placed on a “Scottish Ridge Meet” when 11 members came up to “ByTheWay” hostel for a weekend of winter climbing and walking on Ben Lui and 2 other local Munros.
