Geocache Description:

The Florida Caverns State Park, presents many sites and many different types of beauty. From caves to bluffs.

****TOUR CAVE CLOSURE
The cave tours will be shut down from January 22-24, 2008 for our annual cave maintenance. Please plan your cave adventure before or after these dates.*****

The Florida Caverns are a series of underground caves.

The beauty of the caves took many thousands of years to create. If you do tour them, please adhere to the guides and rules.

The Florida Caverns are unusual for the area of the country. Most “Sinks” never form to the level of a cave. The limestone caverns were formed over many, many years as water gently seeped through the bedrock underlining the surface. This seepage washed away cavities that eventually created the caves. During this creation, Speleothems were formed creating stalagmites, stalactites and flowstones. This cavern is the only one of the many such caves that are open to the public in Florida and one of the very few that are air filled as most of these caves are underwater.

The Florida State Parks advised this is the only Florida state park to offer cave tours to the public.
The answers you will learn on the tour, but, can also be learned by research.

To gain credit for this cache please visit the coordinates provided and post a picture of you and your GPSr at the entrance to the cave. (Again you are not required to take the tour, that is your decision.) Send the answers to the following questions to *** flcavernsearthcache@gmail.com ***

1) Stalagmites, soda straws, columns, rimstones, flowstones and draperies, are fragile formations and are composed of ___________ , a mineral dissolved from limestone rock.

2) Approximately how far below the surface does the tour entrace begin?

3) What is the average temperature of the cave?
