Chocolate factory "Laima" in Riga/Šokolades rupnica "Laima" Riga
This sweet legend was born in 1870, when the German manufacturer Theodore Rigert founded the first candy factory in Riga and gave it his name.
In 1925 the factory was renamed into "Laima" – in the name of Latvian goddess of destiny. Since then, the name "Laima" for decades has become a delicious synonym for candy and chocolate for gourmands. Sweetest memory from my Soviet childhood was exactly "Laima" chocolate! :-)

Latvijas salda legenda dzimusi 1870. gada, kad vacu uznemejs Teodors Rigerts nodibinja un nosauca sava varda pirmo saldumu fabriku Riga, kas kluva par vienu no lielakajiem saldumu razotajiem Baltija un Krievija. 1925. gada fabrika tika pardeveta par “Laimu” un ta tiek saukta joprojam.
