Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of savannah caches in Suriname and can be considered a "Piece of Cake" warming-up for geocaching in the savannah. Preferably these caches should be done with at least two 4WD’s as the terrain can be very difficult and especially in the wet season, very treacherous. It is advisable to take special equipment with you for towing and digging and also a machete could come in handy. Be sure to take enough drinking water with you as potable water is usually not available in the different savannah areas.

Your quest will start at Zanderij airport. The above mentioned coordinates are those of the road sign near the turn off to the departure hall. From the city of Paramaribo to this place should not take more than about 1hr drive. If your planning to do some serious savannah work make sure you have your gastank filled up. The last gasoline station is about 20km before you reach Zanderij airport.

From here follow the instructions as mentioned under 'additional waypoints'. The cache is located in the general area indicated by additional waypoint X1. Once you get into the ENE part of the Hannover savannah you wil have to locate the tree depicted in the image below.

You will find the final coordinates of the geocache near the image above. Have a good look, they are there!

Note 1: The Hannover Savannah is an area of savanna’s located around Zanderij airport (Jopie Adolf Pengel Luchthaven), mainly to the north and the east. Google Earth is usually a good place to start planning your savannah cache quests.

Note 2: For a map with main roads and the location of different savannah’s in Suriname click HERE. For a file with different savannah tracks for a Garmin GPS unit click HERE

Note 3: I come very regular in Suriname, almost once every three months for a week or two. Local arrangements have been made in case maintenance of the cache is needed on a short notice.
