Ware Shoals South Carolina is known as the Catfish Capitol of the Southeast. This small town American site swelled to 21,000 during the 2007 Memorial Day Catfish Festival. There is always fun and entertainment for the whole family.

Ware Shoals Dam

The Shoals, located just east of the town, is a favorite for locals to gather and cool off from the summer heat. There is a small park with picnic facilities on the Laurens County side, and access to the shoals.

Trail Signs

This cache was placed on a large rock outcroping between the dam and the canoe portage. You will need to go a bit passed the fishing trail and canoe portage and find the access point in the image below.

Stairway to cache

You will notice movement on this outcropping, but don't be alarmed. Lizards are abundent in this river bottom, and the rock outcropping is the perfect place to get a tan. :)
