Geocache Description:

We hide a cache in another historical and also interesting place of the city of Patra. At the castle of Patra. The castle of Patra was built in the second half of the 6th century A.D. on the ruins of the ancient Acropolis. In A.D. 805 the inhabitants of the city were besieged in the castle by the Slavs and Saracens and their victory, considered a miracle of the city's patron saint Andrew, was important for repelling the barbarian invasions in Peloponnese. In the following centuries the castle, which remained continuously in use until the Second World War for the defense of the city, as well as an administrative and military centre, was captured by the Franks, Venetians, Palaiologoi and Turks. If you want to visit the castle you have to pay an entrance ticket and it is open all the days except Monday. The crypt is in a hole in the exterior wall of castle, thus can find it independent from the hours of entry in the castle and you don't need to pay for the entry. It is a small plastic box that initially contain a geocaching declaration in Greek and in english, a log book, a pencil, and some items for trade.
