Geocache Description:

This is a short stroll around one of Glasgow’s many public parks with the cache located nearby.

Before we start, we would like to thank ‘Oldgeriwalker’ for allowing us to place the cache here.

The land for Victoria Park was originally acquired by the Burgh of Partick and was named for Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee in 1886. It is considered by some to be Glasgow’s prettiest park.
The coordinates given are for the starting point to this “multi”. These are the Jubilee Gates which were erected and funded by the ‘Ladies of Partick’ in 1887. They were manufactured by Macfarlane’s Saracen foundry at a cost of £100 and they bear Partick Burgh coat of arms. The gates were originally located on Balshagray Avenue but in the early 1960’s a sizeable area of the park was sacrificed to make way for the approach roads to the Clyde Tunnel and Expressway. The gates were moved from their original location to this part of the park.
The park was formally opened by the Lord Provost of Glasgow Sir Andrew McLean on the 2nd July 1887.

The area near the Fossil Grove is one of the finest rock gardens in Europe. While many of the plants are not strictly of the rock garden variety, the area is beautiful all year round.

Now the work begins.

Looking at the gates;

A = The number of letters in the second word of the Latin motto.
B = The number of lamps on the pillars.
C = The number of letters in the first word of the Latin motto.

You now need to make your way to a poignant place at:
N. 55 52.ABC W. 004 19.CA(A+B)

Here you will need to look for;

D = The number of words at the bottom of the column.
E = The number of wings minus 2.
F = The number of swords.
G = The number of wings on the figure.

Now we move on to a place where the main attraction has been here for ages! This can be found at;
N. 55 52.(A+F)EF W. 004 20.(D-B)(Dx2)B

When you arrive have a look for the Barley Sugar Columns on the front of the building. How many are there?

H = The number of Barley Sugar Columns.

From here you need to partially retrace your steps and head to a stone that indicates the letter ‘T’ in the Gaelic Alphabet. The stone can be found at:
N. 55 52.(H+B)E(A+F) W. 004 20.(A-G)(A+G)(D-F)

Here you will find a poem about Holly. Look at the name of the poet.

I = The number of letters in the first name.
J = The number of letters in the surname.

Off we go again to a point outside the environs of the park:
N. 55 52.IED W. 004 20.(I-A)(I-F)J

The cache is hidden at:
