Diz a lenda que a Ermida de Santo André foi mandada construí pelo Rei D. Sancho I no mesmo local onde o seu Capitão Fernão Gonçalves se reuniu na noite de 30 de Novembro de 1162, quase à 850 anos, com alguns dos então habitantes de Beja para combinarem o assalto à cidade. Dessa construção, provavelmente apenas resta esta lenda. A actual Ermida, muito embora esteja no mesmo local referenciado pela lenda, é dos finais do Século XV e insere-se no conjunto de construções gótico-mudéjares bem características do Alentejo e de outras localidades da Península Ibérica como por Sevilha, Cádis, Toledo entre outras. Conferindo-lhe um ar medieval, a construção é ladeada por torreões cilíndricos encimados com pináculo cónicos e a sua frontaria presenteia-nos com uma bela galilé. O seu interior é de uma só nave com abóbada ogival e a capela-mor revestida por azulejos policromos do século XVII. Apesar de muito deteriorado, o retábulo do altar-mor ainda apresenta vestígios de frescos quinhentistas.		Says the legend that the Ermida de Santo André (St. Andrew Chapel) was sent built by the Portuguese King D. Sancho I in the same place where his Captain Fernão Gonçalves met on the evening of November 30, 1162, almost 850 years ago, with some of the inhabitants of Beja to combine the assault on the city. From that construction, probably just left this legend. The current Chapel, although it’s in the same location referenced by the legend, is from the end of the fifteenth century and is included in the Gothic-mudejares constructions, one characteristic from Alentejo and other localities from the Iberian Peninsula like Seville, Cádiz and Toledo among others. With a medieval style, the building is flanked by cylindrical towers conical roof tapered with its frontage presenting us with a beautiful galilé. The interior is a single nave with an ogival vault and the main chapel has some polychrome tiles coated from the seventeenth century. Despite very deteriorated, the retable of the main altar still has traces of fresh painting from the fifteenth century.
