Geocache Description:




Approximately 5km from Bauska in direction Mežotne, by the Lielupeside, is Jumprava. In the end of 18th century, beginning of 19th century there was established Jumpravmuižas park with artificial castle ruins on the high dolomite cliff near Lielupe, caves, streams, waterfall cascade with total high more than 1.5 m. Under the castle ruins are cambers and deep caves. The story goes that this cave under Lielupe leads till the Bauska castle. In the park are graveyard and chapel of landlords family. End of 18th century this kind of parks replaced regular French gardens and were symbols for life in conformity with nature. Were issued special albums for establishing imitation of castle ruins and this kind of parks were very popular all around Europe. Jumpravmuižas artificial castle ruins is oldest this kind of monument in Latvia. Nowadays this park is not so nice as described, but some very nice things are still there. This place is popular for climbers. Please do not try to remove stones! You can try to climb up the ruins, but cache will not be there.
