This will give you a great view of Prospect Bay. You will also be able to see a small port where some of the local crabbers dock. What a rough job that is.
This bridge was built to replace what was just a small local bridge. The original was very close to water level. In 1952 this draw bridge was built to accomadate the taller ships that were beginning to be used so they could pass through rather than having to go all the way around Kent Island. It is manned 24/7. When the boats need to get thru they call the bridge operator who then raises & lowers the bridge. Once they pass through the captains will blow their horn to signal 'All Clear'. It is really enjoyable to watch. When, in 1952, the Bay Bridge opened & traffic became even more of a problem another bridge was built, which is the high one behind you. Although when you drive across it you get a great view it can't beat the view from the Draw Bridge or the nostalgia that goes with it.
Take a few mins & make the walk to the middle of the bridge to really enjoy the View, & the breeze. Wave to the boats going through & ENJOY!
