Geocache Description:

A small bison tube camo'ed with black tape. Bring your own pen.

1/25/2011: Please put back exactly where you found it otherwise it can easily get lost. If you can't find it, email me a photo of where you think it should be and if I confirm you are correct, you can claim the find.

Cache is not at the posted coordinates but is within a half mile. For this puzzle cache, you will have to solve a few puzzles to get to the real coordinates.

Puzzle 1- In this puzzle, each capital letter stands for a word. For example: The answer to 32 P on a C would be 32 Pieces on a Chessboard, and 21 D on a D is 21 Dots on a Die.
1.1- 1 H on a U
1.2- 2 P in a Q
1.3- 3 M of a T
1.4- 3 L in a HP
1.5- 4 A in a D of C
1.6- 4 C in a S
1.7- 5 L in a L
1.8- 6 S on a G
1.9- 6 N on a D
1.10- 12 V in a CB

Puzzle 2- This puzzle is an easy anagram. It will tell you what kind of cipher will be used in Puzzle 3. This cipher is listed on the American Cryptogram Association.

2.1: An anagram that tells what type of cipher to use: FAIRY LAP

Puzzle 3- The rules of this cipher are those from the American Cryptogram Association. The type of cipher is found by solving the anagram in Puzzle 2.1.

Take the last word of each puzzle in Puzzle 1 (Puzzles 1.1-1.10). Line them up. For example, if your words were “Center,” “of,” “Many,” and “Limbs,” you would write “CenterOfManyLimbs.” Take the first two letters of each word and line them up. “CenterOfManyLimbs” would become CEOFMALI. Delete any repeated letters. (If you ended up with something like CEOCFMAALI, delete the extra C and extra A to get CEOFMALI.) Write the rest of the letters in the alphabet (excluding j) not in the keyword after the keyword. CEOFMALI would become CEOFMALIBDGHKNPQRSTUVWXYZ. This is your new “keyword.”

The cache is at N 37 AB.CDE, W 122 VW.XYZ
Follow the rules of the cipher found in Puzzle 2.1 to solve:

AB.CDE = NYCWI OVLIF QRPMU VUFGD KQIOH V
VW.XYZ = VMNSW FUVOC FOQYN YANNI OBQC

Checksum: A+B+C+D+E+V+W+X+Y+Z=34

Beware of muggles driving by, especially during rush hours. Part of the cache is visible, and you do not need to climb on anything to get it. Best to park on nearby side street. Probably easier to find when there is daylight.

Please be gentle to the hosting flora when putting the bison back. Please tuck the ring-side in first.

Update: 6/25/08 Depending on where the bison is, it may be easier to tuck it back with the ring-side facing out.
Update: 10/13/2013 It seems to get dislodged very easily, especially if there has been bad weather or if the city has been cleaning up around it. Probably best to email me before going on a hunt for it so I can check if it is still there.
