WWFM - The Maine Event
Here's the plan...let's go! Maine's first ever flash mob event is
coming! November 10, 2007 at 12:00 PM.
Flash Mob: a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a
public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and
then quickly disperse.
DATE: Saturday, November 10, 2007
TIME: 12:00 PM to 12:15 PM (Yes, only 15 minutes!)
WHERE: near the Bangor waterfront
This Flash Mob event will be only 15 minutes long. You MUST be
present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to claim this
event. After 15 minutes, it's over! This event will last exactly 15
minutes, not one second longer! This event will be one small part
of the WWFM (world-wide flash mob event). This event (and all
others around the globe in their respective time zone) will begin
precisely at 12:00PM on Saturday, November 10.
At exactly 12:00 PM (as determined by your GPS clock) a bucket for
log sheets will be placed near the coordinates. As you arrive,
you’ll be handed a "log sheet." Participants will sign the log
sheets (which will later become the log book). To qualify for
attendance, drop them in the designated bucket. Bring your own
pen!!!
At exactly 12:00 PM, a second bucket for travel bugs, coins and
other trackables will be placed near the coordinates. Feel free to
swap, trade or take trackables that you can help along. Leftovers
will be dispersed in the Bangor, Maine area.
At a designated time, the meal will be served and we will take a
group photo.
At exactly 12:15PM, the log sheets will be packed up and sealed
away. The event area will be evacuated without a trace. Only those
participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log THIS
event.
ITINERARY:
11:45 - 11:59 AM - Participants: Wait patiently in your
vehicles or stroll around the area. Find your way to the nearby
parking lot and stay alert, but STAY AWAY from ground zero until
the signal is given. As much as you can, act like a muggle, pretend
not to know each other or give any indication that something is
about to happen. At 11:59AM, Cache Maine will reach ground zero
with the buckets, and blow the horn. This is the signal for the
Flash Mob Event to begin. Everyone now makes their way to GZ.
12:00 PM - Log sheets will be handed out for those who did not
bring their own. Bring your own writing instrument. Sign individual
log sheets and drop them in the collection bucket. Mingle. Trade
travel bugs and coins. Share stories. Brag. Take pictures. Make
arrangements to meet elsewhere, or to find the various caches in
the nearby area.
12:08 PM - The catered meal will be served! (Don’t get excited,
it’s just leftover Halloween candy.)
12:11 PM - Prize drawing
12:13 PM - Assemble for a group photo, and assemble FAST. Listen to
the photographer for directions. Group photo is taken.
12:14 PM - One minute warning is called "It is now 12:14!" Prepare
to leave.
12:15 PM EXACTLY - Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area (right at
12:15 PM)! Meet elsewhere if desired. The log sheet bucket will be
packed up. If you don't get to it in time you can't log the event.
If everything goes right we will have lots of people coming out of
nowhere and gathering for 15 minutes, holding a geocaching event
and then disappearing. This could be lots of fun and maybe even
raise a few muggle eyebrows! * Credit is given to other WWFM web
pages and especially to GizFinder (GC16DEN) from whose description
I've gratefully borrowed due to time limitations with posting this
event cache.
UPDATE: October 22, 2007...The Cache Maine team will be in
blaze orange....if you would all like to dress in the same manner,
that would be fine. I thought it might be easier if we stood out,
but I think pretty much everyone knows us, or will recognize what
is happening once we blow the horn. The idea here is fast...please
bring your own pen to sign in, and then mingle away from the
buckets so others can do the same. CM2 will be doing the official
timekeeping, so keep an eye on him for direction. In the next few
days, I will figure out the logistics of taking a group photo.
UPDATE: November 6, 2007...On Saturday, I will have three
buckets. One for the log sheets, one of swag and one for TB/GC's.
Please make sure to visit all three! One of the prizes this weekend
will be the honor of claiming the event as FTF so please make sure
to get your log sheet in the bucket ASAP! We will be drawing for
this before 12:15. It is a very good idea to bring your own pen!
There will be other prizes as well. We'll see you there, don't
forget to come in blaze orange!
