This cache is part of the ten-county Allegheny
GeoTrail project. It contains a special stamp to be used in
your GeoTrail passport, which you'll want to obtain before setting
out to find the cache. Please do not remove the stamp! Get your
passport stamped at 6 or more AGT caches within a county, and get a
FREE geocoin representing that county. There are ten different
coins to collect, plus a bonus 11th coin if you get all 10
counties. Click the logo for more information!
Start this trip by driving down Empire road to the old parking
lot where the Game School used to stand, near the large
commemorative stone. Hike the gated road at the NE corner of the
lot to Manners Dam road (it starts near an old boiler house) and
hang a left. Down the road, take a right where the improved logging
road begins. This road will take you through some neat spots on
your way to the cache.
The cache is about 300-400 feet off of the road, and the terrain
is open woods, so it shouldn't be difficult to get to. Be sure to
explore the area, it has quite a few interesting places. Just watch
your footing and watch for critters! Also take some time to visit
what's left of Manners Dam and the Ross Loeffler Game School, and
the nearby "hunters cache"!
The cache is located on PA Game Lands, so be sure to wear plenty
of orange during hunting season. See the PA Game Commission website
for more information on hunting schedules and game land
regulations.
