Geocache Description:

Located on a nature trail 0.8 mile round trip from stile

Why big pond? When there's no pond in sight. Well the whole area from Lock Lane to the railway line & up to the Eyewash Canal was one large pond most likely constructed for ballast, for the railways, as many of the local ponds date back to this period. Then it was filled in with ash from the power station and became Lock Lane Tip. Used by many motor X riders and kids on tracker bikes in the 70s. These where Long Eaton's version of mountain bikes. With knobbly tires massive rear single sprocket and small cranks to give good ground clearance, & cow horn handle bars.
Then the land was developed into Lock Lane Golf Club with land set aside for a small nature reserve running parallel with the railway.
This trail is the only remaining foot path of the old tip and was known as the back track by the local kids.

If you would like a longer walk you can carry on past the cache to the canal go under the railway bridge.Follow the path down the side of the railway enbankment away from the canal. This takes you a 2 mile walk around the triangle pond. There is a wooden sleeper bridge over the pond at this end so you can make a circuit.
