The spot where this geocache is placed, is very important, not only to 1st Ferring Sea Scouts, who placed it, but also to every Scout troop in the Arundel and Littlehampton Scout District. This location is where the district held the Centenary Camp in July-August 2007, to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.
Lord Baden-Powell did many things in his life such as being a soldier as well as an artist and also an actor. Yet, he will probably always be remembered most as the Founder of Scouting.
In 1907, he held a camp on Brownsea Island, Poole, Dorset. He wanted to see if his ideas about developing a training program for young people in Britain, based on his experiences in war would be good ones. He took 20 boys from all different sorts of backgrounds and put them together in this camp, under his supervision. Well, his ideas were just right, and Scouting was born to the world. There are now about 28 million young people, both boys and girls, involved in Scouting in 216 different countries and territories worldwide.
1st Ferring Sea Scouts are the only Sea Scout troop in the village of Ferring, in West Sussex, England. We meet on a Tuesday night, and currently have about 30 members, boys and girls, and a team of very dedicated parent leaders. We have lots of fun doing many different activities including sailing, windsurfing, hiking, cycling and, of course, geocaching!
Patching, the location of this geocache, is a small civil parish and village. It is comprised of fields and woods on the southern slopes of the South Downs in the Arun District of West Sussex, England. It's history goes back to before Domesday!
