Geocache Description:

Parking in pull off at the rest rooms, just a short walk up to cache, cache is in medium size prescription bottle.

From here you can access part of the trail that was used on August 31, 1805 by the Lewis & Clark Expedition while passing through Lemhi County. They hiked over this trail, starting out from where they were camped, that was up about 4 miles on what is now known as Tower Creek. They left camp in the morning and came out at Trail Gulch around 3 in the afternoon, which is about 2 3/4 miles N of what is now North Fork, the overall distance is approximately 15 miles. The distance nowadays on the highway is about 12 3/4 miles along the river and takes about 15 minutes to travel, but to hike the trail that they took from this point is six miles and takes at least six [6] hours. You can drive up the dirt road off the parking area up to the gate and the historical marker about the trail, and see the view of the terrain they had to cross through.
