Glazier Arboretum trail maps may be in the box on the kiosk just
beyond the parking area or try this online
trail map.
Cache is a regular ammo box.
Please do not try to park anywhere other than in the
designated parking lot to access this cache. The arboretum property
is surrounded by private land.
This interesting property, owned and maintained by the Town of
New Castle, has a mix of habitats: meadow (that is mowed
infrequently to allow wildflowers), wetland (small marsh,
floodplain forest, and small pond) with boardwalk and various
forest types (including beech and some surviving hemlock
stands).
An arboretum is a planted collection of trees. The original
owner, Henry Glazier and his parents, planted many unusual trees
here, many from other countries. A map and booklet about the trees
was produced several years ago. Contact cache owner if
interested.
Just to the north on Whippoorwill Road is Whippoorwill Park,
also owned by the Town of New Castle, that offers more great
walking and other caches to find.
