Geocache Description:

On the Saturday before Labor Day, thousands gather in the Black Rock Desert near Gerlach, Nevada to burn a giant wooden statue. It's called Burning Man. It's a stupid and futile gesture, as is this, but it's all about participating and having fun. This event will be held on the Saturday after Labor Day. It's called Burning Micro.

We’re celebrating! In our third annual survey of 35 of the largest cities in the United States, Pittsburgh distinguished itself by having fewer micros than any other city. This marks the second year in a row that we have won this distinction and we take pride in knowing that this is a good indicator of the overall quality of caches hidden by our community. We like to say that it’s not about the numbers because we all know that more caches does not necessarily mean better caching. The game of aiming at the easy ones and bragging how many inevitably leads to the phenomenon known as Micro Spew™ that is epidemic wherever spew olympians dominate the scene to the detriment of those who seek more than an opportunity to increment their find count. We don't care how many guardrails you have kissed! It's time, once again, to take our blue ribbon and run with it! Let's have another big fire and burn some more micros!

TRIGO: Three Rivers Informal Geocaching Organization

There's going to be a bonfire. A guardrail will be scorched and some film canisters will be burnt. If this offends you, you need not attend. The event will begin at 2:00 PM and the burn will be at dusk (approximately 7:30 PM).

This event will be held on the property of Quest Master's parents in rural Greensburg. It will be essentially the same as last year, the year before, and previous events held at this location. The kids will enjoy the "rides" that we have set up in the woods. Pets with well-behaved owners are also welcome to attend. Bring an entrée (burgers, dogs, etc.) for yourself and a covered dish (chips, cookies, potato salad, etc.) to share with fellow geocachers. Quest Master will supply a gas or charcoal grill for cooking. He'll also supply tables, chairs, plates, cups, napkins, plasticware, and drinks. Beer will be available but we expect any drinking to be done in moderation. This is a family affair. Anyone who overindulges will be sacrificed on the micro pyre. We think that we'll probably spend most of our time socializing and putting names and faces to geocache logs but we expect for there to be a few temporary caches plus some other activites unique to Burning Micro such as the ever-popular spud guns. Please stay tuned to for more details.

It's difficult to offer driving directions except to say that we are on Route 819 between South Greensburg and Armbrust. Fortunately, this should not be too much of an issue for this group. My advice is to find your way to New Stanton or Youngwood and follow your GPS from there. If you need better directions, please email.

Please RSVP by posting a note to this page.

The Grand Appenger Award will be handed down at the event from Lenore of The DresselDragons and Cierra of pghlooking. To enter into this contest it asked that you make a sculpture using film cans and bring to the event. All sculptures will be judged and the winning sculptor will be crowned the newest Grand Appenger. The sculptures will be donated for the cause of course. We would hate to see them be turned into an actual cache. For any clarfications on the rules and such please contact the DresselDragons through their player account.
