The winter storms of 2006 devastated Mount Rainier National
Park. The damage was so extensive that it took several months just
to begin to coordinate the recovery effort. I got on the volunteer
list as soon as possible and they are finally ready for us.
The group organizing the recovery effort has suggested an area
around Longmire but that is not set in stone at this time. For now
the posted coordinates are for Longmire. Depending on where they
assign us we could be doing trail maintenance, debris removal,
invasive plant removal and/or native plant re-planting.
We plan on breaking for lunch around two and we will arrange for
the main dish (likely hot dogs). We ask that you bring sides or
desserts to fill out the meal. We will cover the plates and
condiments so no need to worry about those.
We have a door prize raffle planned with some prizes to give
away for those attending. We have a nice internal frame backpack, a
cammo daypack with hydration bladder and I'm sure I can scare up a
few geocoins somewhere. I hope to add more prizes as we get closer
to the event.
As I update things with the park I'll update the coordinates and
post notes to this page, please put it on your watch list to
receive updates. For now plan on meeting at the posted coordinates
at 9:00 am and dress to get dirty. Long pants, boots and work
gloves are a must.
