A Praia
de Santo Amaro de Oeiras é uma das praias mais procuradas do
Concelho de Oeiras.
Uma tradição que vem desde o séc. XIX, altura em que despontou o
gosto pelos banhos de mar.
Nessa
altura os banhos iniciavam-se muito cedo, das 07h até às 09h.
Quem chegasse à praia depois dessa hora era considerado
retardatário.
A época balnear tinha o seu início em Agosto.
Mas não
só de actividades de lazer viveu a Praia de Santo Amaro.
Nas últimas décadas do séc. XIX e nas primeiras do séc. XX, foi
palco de trabalhosa e cansativa actividade piscatória.
Esta actividade era exercida sobretudo por gente de fora,
especialmente da Ria de Aveiro.
Fixavam-se precariamente nesta região, enquanto durava a
campanha.
Atraía-as a favorável cotação de preços, a facilidade de absorção
do mercado, a maior segurança representada pela acessibilidade e
proximidade de abrigos e a menor hostilidade do mar.
Aprecie
a vista a partir do local onde está a cache e, tente descobrir
quantos monumentos consegue ver para Este.
A pé,
de patins ou de bicicleta (atenção às restrições) utilize o passeio
marítimo e vá até ao Porto de Recreio de Oeiras.

SAINT AMARO de OEIRAS BEACH
The beach of Saint Amaro de Oeiras is one of beaches
more looked of the Oeiras Municipality.
Following a tradition that comes since 19th century, when the
taste for the sea baths emerged.
In that time the baths were initiated very early, from
07h to 09h o’clock. Who arrived at the
beach after that hour was considered a latecomer.
The beginning of the baths season was in August.
The beach of Saint Amaro not only lived of leisure
activities.
In the last decades of 19th century and in the first ones of 20th
century, it was the stage of painstaking and tiring fishing
activity.
This activity was exercised,
mainlyby people from
outside, especially from “Ria de Aveiro”.
They
precariously
settle down in this region, while the campaign
lasts.
They were attracted by the favorable quotation of prices, the
easiness of the market
absorption, the higest safety represented by the
accessibility and proximity of shelters and the lesser
hostility of the sea.
Enjoy the sight from the cache spot and try to find
how many monuments you can see to the East.
On foot, by rollers or by bicycle (pay
attention to the schedule) go along the maritime promenade to
the
OeirasHarbour/Marina.
