The cache is a decon container, hidden not far from the starting
point for my now-departed View From the Office cache.
The view from the office isn't so happy right now,
unfortunately. While I was away on vacation in Europe this past
June, a coworker of mine named Vince died. I didn't know Vince too
well; while he had worked here for a few years, it was only in the
last few months that I'd started working directly with him. He was
a nice kid who'd recently transitioned from QA into development,
and he was learning his new craft nicely.
We learned a lot about Vince as we grieved and memorialized him.
He had a very full life, doing all sorts of things beyond writing
code for a massive software company. It's terribly unfortunate that
it took his death for us (for me, at least) to learn about the rest
of his life.
Vince will get a tree planted in his honor on our campus, just
like Jos, another coworker of mine who died at work several years
back. Jos also got a nice memorial on the Stevens Creek Trail;
there's a cache
near there which mentions him by name. I don't know if Vince will
get a memorial on the trail, but he's going to get a cache along
the trail for sure.
RIP, Vince. Your coworkers miss you.
